EU decides file sharers should be anonymous

The European Court of Justice gave all of those file sharers a bit of a boost when they declared that under EU law internet service providers (ISP’s) cannot be forced to reveal the personal details of anyone who has been caught of suspected of file sharing.

It was the Spanish telecoms company Telefonica who when to reveal personal details of their subscribers, said that they are not required to giver over the personal details of their customers to the authorities unless they are suspected of being involved in a criminal offence, so as file sharing is only a civil issue, this does not apply.

The European court agreed and now this is a clear record within European law, which will please the many thousands of people out there who are worrying about the Pirate Bay issue and other file sharing cases that may be ongoing.
