Hard drives in the dock

Electronic storage devices are being checked by government officials at airports as they believe that they are perfectly within their rights to do so, and the courts agree!

Yet people have many personal details on them, like photos, financial records, letters and diaries. These are personal and have nothing to with government, or do they? Obviously there are some occasions when this sort of invasion of privacy is warranted, but not just anyone who happens to have a laptop.

This could become a major problem if these sorts of civil liberties continue to be abused, but while there are terrorists around there will be no reason not to expect this sort of security.
