DNS Threat via malware
Researchers at Google and the Georgia Institute of Technology have found some serious problems with open recursive DNS servers who are behaving badly, these are DNS servers which will take a request from anywhere.
By poisoning these servers this enables a piece a malware which will send a request anywhere, and as these sites are false this is a very dangerous situation to be in.
However this cannot happen with secure sites as they cannot replicate the SSL certificates, but you may find yourself being transported to a porn site or to another site which will place some more software onto your computer, it’s a nightmare.
Fortunately this is pretty rare, especially with operating systems like Vista which can or should protect the machine against a malware attack.
