UK should use US laws for data protection

It is being proposed that any security breach that affects data held by government agencies and businesses. Should follow the line that is being used in states like California where the law on data protection is taken very seriously indeed.

It’s not fines that make businesses take data security seriously, but the fact that for every breach of the organisations data bases they are obliged to declare it, which would show everyone who is doing a good job and who is not.

The idea behind this type of law is not to punish organisations, but ensure that they make the protection of the data held by them is kept safe and secure, and that any breach is not just brushed under the carpet.
