Security issues with MSN Messenger

Microsoft is urging all Windows Live and MSN Messenger users to upgrade to the newest version as soon as possible. People using MSN Messenger versions 6.2, 7.0 and 7.5 and/or Windows Live Messenger 8.0 will be prompted to the upgrade process to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 when they try to log onto the service.

It appears that hackers are targeting all types of messenger services, as users have become aware of the problems associated with emails that attempt to gain private information through this type of message etc.

Users who do not upgrade will be reminded every time that they attempt to sign in, which will get a bit boring after a while, this is Microsoft almost forcing people to upgrade. Yet this is a serious matter and nobody would want to intentionally leave themselves open to an attack.

No doubt this will cause some problems for some users, as there is often some resistance to change especially when it forced upon them.
