Online crime in the UK soars

It is a sign of the times that more than three million online crimes were committed in 2006. But it has become clear that the figures for financially related crime hit 200,000 cases, which is more than twice the amount of robberies that were carried in person for the same period.

Figures according to 1871 Ltd, suggest that the figures for online crimes on still on the rise, and cover a variety of different crimes including 1.9 million cases of threatening or abusive emails, 144,500 accessing someone’s computer without authorisation, 90,000 involved ID theft, and 850,000 sexual related offences.

With these figures being just for the UK, the extent of this sort of abuse is massive and frightening.
