The human element

Who needs serious security measures when you have humans in the equation? It has been a long standing thought that technology is ok; it is the human element that causes the problems. And this has been the case with several high level incidents.

Recently we have seen the California Public Employees Retirement System send out names, addresses and social security numbers to a printer. The US Federal Trade Commission letting details slip regarding an antitrust lawsuit and of the Monster.com problem that saw hundreds of thousands of job hunters personal details released.

These events could have been easily prevented and it was in fact only because of third party intervention that the problem did not get totally out of hand.
