Some pirates are good
Despite all of the bad publicity that surrounds downloading copyrighted material, it would seem that the average person that may download the occasional piece of music, video or even software these people could actually be doing the copyright owners, normally those large media companies, a bit of favour.
How does this work? It is simple really, say a person obtains a piece of music, their friends hear it and like it, this means that they will go out an buy it and so on, so for the few odd bits of material is that is downloaded the companies may then profit from this by future purchases.
It could even be considered a marketing tactic in the future, if only companies could see the potential of what they are missing out on, then maybe the internet would not be seen as the wild west, but as a valuable marketing tool and as for the pirates, well they would have to become company friendly as well as fighting for freedom.
