Computer security risk to high for insurers
Insuring your computer against a security threat is virtually impossible, in fact the whole area of computing whether it be in business of personal computing, the risk is the same and there is in fact not much data available on what sort threats there are that can attack a users personal items. The problem is that the whole computing industry is unlike any other.
They use the car scenario to illustrate their fears. If you buy a brand new car and after ninety days things began to shut down unless you sign up for a paid subscription or if the car that arrives has no way of locking it leaving open to anyone who wants to just open the door.
These may sound extreme, but in reality this is the sort of thing that computer owners are getting all of the time, which is why the insurance industry has been shying away from this sector. The trouble is the computer sector is relatively new and changing all of time. With little data to go on it is virtually impossible to even begin to produce a quote that would thoroughly protect a computer and its user.
