No choice is the cause of piracy
The digital entertainment survey 2008 has revealed some astonishing answers as to why people in the UK still going ahead and download pirated content, despite all of the industry and government warnings that are saying it can get them into very deep trouble indeed, and even find that they are unable to connect to the internet because they have been barred.
It seems that the main reason for the huge amount of people downloading copyrighted material from various sources is the fact that there is little choice in the material that they want, around seventy per cent of those who responded to the survey all agreed that the legal sites do not have the same amount of content as the illegal ones do.
It has been estimated that around six million people in the UK every year download some sort of illegal copyrighted content in the past year alone, which just goes prove that it is not the actual downloading of illegal content that is the problem, it’s the content itself, if legal sites had the right content then the problem would reduce significantly.
