Will UK downloader’s ever be banned?
Recently it was announced that UK downloader’s of files of copyrighted materials will be banned from using the internet these scare tactics will not wear in the real world as it is totally impractical to even begin to ban people from the net.
But even more than that, this very concept of ISP’s having to hand over their subscribers detail goes against an EU ruling which states that details can only be handed over in criminal cases, file sharing is civil case. Even so it is estimated that in the UK alone there are around six million file sharers these are all paying around £15 per month for broadband which works out at a tidy some, are the ISP’s going to throw that cash away?
It is virtually impossible for anyone to tell the difference between an illegal file share and downloading software patches, using torrents to share stuff legally, playing online video games, using VoIP, photo sharing, telecommuting, and many others, so unless things change this is not going to work at all.
